The Trampled Rose

She was a small town girl with a big heart. Born to a very poor family who didn’t know when their next meal would arrive; she was the one shining light that helped her family forget what they were going through. Her parents called her “Sudu Duwa” (Sweet Daughter), and her little brother called her “Sudu Akka” (Sweet Sister) but for everyone else she was knows as “Kusum” (Flower).

I am Talking To You..

I always relied on you to build my life. I always used your advice , your light and guidance to carry me forward during the happy and darker times. You always showed me the path to success and though it was a path filled with difficulties and challenges, you made me believe that its the correct way which in the end bought me success, happiness and peace.

For Friendship..

We have been best friends from the first day we got to know each other. Though at times I felt I was a nobody , you never treated me that way and always took care of me as I was one of you .We had our good times, we had our bad times and you seem to handle me, understand me like no other. Even when I was making those stupid jokes or when I was burning with anger and palpitations, you knew that I was just being me and always stood with me just like best friends do.

Chasing a Dream and Living it ..

For me , Life has always been about choices.  From the days I started to understand things , I always  tried to use the power of choice I had to the best of my abilities in order to gain success. As I grew older , the choices became wider and wider and then making decisions was not easy as it used to be. This is where at a certain junction I had to choose between Business , IT and Writing. I decided to take on Business with IT.

Caped Crusader..

I never wanted my life to be this way.  I always wanted to live a normal life ; just like all the inhabitants that exist in this plant we call earth. During my early years of life, I thought I was the same. But, as time passed every second..every minute..every hour; I knew I was not going to be like the rest. I was different , unique, weird and most of all, miserable.

Don't Give up..

When you feel you are down..
When you feel you have lost all  hope
You think of giving up
And letting go..

You tried so hard ..
To get what you want
But then you realize..
That you still have far to go

You think its worthless
You think you are not good
You feel you should try
Something new..

But then you understand
Nothing works for you at all
The relentless pursuit of mediocrity
Taking you further down..

But that's when you should stop..
Listen to your heart and soul..
Let them guide you through
To your desired goal..

Anybody is good at something..
You need to find it from within..
Time will pass but you surely will.
Know your strengths and skills..

Don't Give up..
Do what you love ..
Today you might be mediocre
But tomorrow you'll be a Superstar..

...................................................................................................................................................

The above is the reply by me for this week's  Indie Ink Writing Challenge, given to me by Sir and the challenge was " The relentless pursuit of mediocrity".  It was a very difficult prompt for me but I somehow managed to come up with the above response. Hope you guys like it .  Also please check out the response by Manju  who will reply to the prompt I gave to her soon.

Cheers !!

Indie Ink Writing Challenge: " Tribute to My Darling AtthAmma (1926- 2008) "

Last Monday at around 7.30 am my beloved grandmother or as me and everyone used to call her our Atthamma passed away.. you might remember how I used to tell that she was not well during the past few months and last Monday it reached the end. Luckily for her and to everyone all her children were there with her even our uncle ( her son) Germany was in Sri Lanka has he came around 2 weeks back to visit her and see her.. It was a peaceful death.. I got to saw her breathing her last breath and it was in a way really shocking and difficult to see... My Sister and my Mom started crying and as tears rolled down their eyes I was still in shock and couldn't believe she was gone as she was perfectly all right during the weekend.

Indie Ink Writing Challenge: " A Land Like No Other.."

As I wake up in the morning to the sounds of a jungle fowl and the sounds of pirith in the radio,  I see the clock is 5 a.m. Looking forward to another busy week ahead I go to the kitchen where mom has prepared the perfect cup of tea to wake me up putting away the little bit of sleepiness I had.   I get ready to go to work  and worship the noble triple gem as she prepare my lunch and keeps the breakfast ready for the whole family. I get my favorite rice and curry or the bread with butter an jam and I hurry off to work with dad before the clock pasts 6.30. It's the normal day to day lifestyle of a modern day Sri Lankan Family , no matter where you live, rich or poor , this lifestyle will never change. That's the beauty of my motherland.
